Photo of the announcement in Whistler Village on July 3, 2003: He came, he stayed for free...he barely slept.
Ramone's reports about his stay: http://www.letmestayforaday.com/report/?id=444; http://www.letmestayforaday.com/report/?id=445; http://www.letmestayforaday.com/report/?id=446 Ramon Stoppelenburg stayed with us on February 26 and 27th, 2003. My wife and I thought "why the heck didn't we think of that" and I thought...hey, I can get out for a change! After a quick couple of emails back and forth, we had invited Ramon through his web site submission area: www.letmestayforaday.com/submitWe initially invited him for one night and then I started making inquiries locally for activities. It soon became apparent that 1 day would never be enough (a week would barely suffice...but we stuck it at 2 days). We had great response from the local community:
Total donated value (including taxes and gratuities), over $1500!!! (this includes the second person on the activities and meals). David Burke of The Whistler Question Newspaper came out and did an interview. Having Ramon was like having a long lost family relative show up at your door. He was very friendly and we enjoyed the opportunity to meet him. We would not hesitate to recommend the experience to anyone! As much fun as we may think it is, I don't envy Ramon...there is a lot of work involved in keeping his project moving. Not only does he come out and hang out with the families/friends and do all the activities, but then he has to write about it. He writes in English and Dutch, edits photos and puts it all together on a daily basis. I would finish setting up for breakfast at 2:00am and he would still be on his computer, emailing, doing interviews and working on the web site. We would heartily welcome Ramone back at any time, hopefully this summer before he leaves Canada? There's some phenomenal mountain biking, alpine sightseeing, bungee jumping, canoe rides...etc, etc. Photos: 1-Joern, Ramone, Nikolas and Kristjan hot tub, disclaimer-alcohol and hot tubbing do not mix, we do not encourage this :-) 2- Dinner with Ramone and Scott (verbally abused American); 3- Interview with David Burke of the Whistler Question; 4,5 and 6- Ziptrek.
